Coppelia

Just like the dancing dolls in the comic ballet Coppelia, you can bring your theater production to life with fine stage backdrops, borders, and legs by Grosh Backdrops and Drapery.

We offer backdrops that depict villages, snow-laden trees, and toy shops that will fit this amusing love triangle between Franz, Swanhilda, and the titular doll Coppelia.

Coppelia is composed of 3 acts and is focused on a small town and the soon-to-be-wed couple, Swanhilda and Franz. Franz becomes enamored with a girl named Coppelia, who sits motionlessly on the balcony of a nearby house owned by the inventor Doctor Copplius. Understandably, Swanhilda swears to investigate the woman who is inactively competing for her fiancs affection and attention.

After its premier at the Thtre Imprial l'Opra in Paris on May 1870, the run of the comic ballet Coppelia was interrupted by the Franco-Prussian War and the Siege of Paris. But once operations resumed, the production became the Opras most performed ballet. Alternative versions of Coppelia have been performed by the San Francisco Ballet and George Balanchine for the New York City Ballet.
