Mame is a 1966 Broadway musical that features the music and lyrics of Jerry Herman and a book by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee. It is based on the 1955 novel Auntie Mame by American author Patrick Dennis and on a 1956 Broadway play also by Lawrence and Lee. In 1974, Warner Brothers released a film version of the musical. Set in New York and straddling the eras of the Roaring Twenties, the Great Depression, and the Second World War, the musical revolves around the zany lifestyle of Mame Dennis and her wealthy bohemian friends. A firm believer that Life is a banquet and most poor sons of bitches are starving to death, Mame lives a carefree existence until it gets interrupted by the arrival of her young nephew, Patrick Dennis, who comes to live with her following the death of the boys father, who is her brother. It doesnt take long before Patrick discovers that his aunt is a wild reveler. Nevertheless, she is kindhearted, and they get along just fine. Alls well until the stock market crashes, and Mame loses most of her wealth. This leads to a series of misadventures until she finds a new husband, Beauregard Jackson Pickett Burnside, who comes from a rich Southern family. Unfortunately, Beau suddenly dies in a mountain climbing accident. Wealthy once more because of her inheritance, Mame comes to realize that there are more important things in life than money. She then decides to dedicate her fortune to charity. Discover the best backdrops, drapes, and curtains for the musical Mame only at Grosh Backdrops and Drapery.
