Camelot recounts the rise and fall of King Arthur’s mythical capital. It opens with the young Arthur’s first encounter with Guinevere and his last conversation with Merlin. Spanning many years, the musical covers the formation of the Round Table, the king’s first meeting with Lancelot, Mordred’s treachery, Lancelot and Guinevere’s fall from grace and, ultimately, the bitter war that led to the downfall of Camelot.
Making its premier on Broadway in 1960, Camelot featured memorable ballads and swashbuckling spectacles. It won 4 of its 5 Tony Award nominations and one Theatre World Award. The popular musical was staged and revived on Broadway numerous times. It also inspired TV productions, films, and tours in the US and in different parts of the world.
