It debuted at The Watermill Theater in Newberry, England in 1993, and then opened as a West End production in 1999. In 2000, Honk! took home the Olivier Award for Best Musical.

The protagonist of this 2-act production goes by the name Ugly, a cygnet or young swan that accidentally fell into a ducks nest. While cherished by his duck mother Ida, Ugly is rejected and made fun of by everyone in the farm due to his appearance. When a hungry feline, Cat, offers his friendship to Ugly, the misplaced cygnet happily accepts, completely unaware of the cunning cats sinister plan.
