The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby

Set in 1922, The Great Gatsby follows the story of a wealthy and mysterious man called Jay Gatsby and other characters who live in an affluent part of Long Island. Gatsby is known for holding lavish parties, but curiously never participates in them. At the core of the narrative is Gatsby’s desire to be reunited with the woman he loves— Daisy Buchanan — whom he lost following a brief romantic encounter in 1917. It is revealed later that he throws his parties only as an attempt to impress Daisy and to win her back. The Great Gatsby is considered a classic piece of American fiction that explores a variety of themes, including romanticism, idealism, social upheaval, and tragedy.
