Stage the most exciting underwater adventure!
Underneath the Atlantic Sea lies Atlantica, led by Triton and inhabited by all sorts of marine creatures. Princess Ariel, Triton’s daughter, feels immense curiosity for the human world and spends a lot of time collecting items from above and hearing stories from other animals. She keeps these human artifacts in her grotto where she dreams of a life above the surface.
One night, accompanied by her best friend Flounder and Sebastian, the king’s advisor crab, she observes Prince Eric celebrating his birthday on a ship and falls in love with him immediately. However, a storm wrecks the ship and Ariel rushes to save Eric’s life and get him to safety. She takes him to the shore and softly sings for him, but leaves right before he wakes up.
Once Triton finds out about her daughter’s whereabouts and storms off and confronts her, reminding contact between humans and marine creatures is forbidden. He then destroys the collection of human items she’s been keeping in her grotto in an attempt to protect her. Heartbroken, Ariel finds her way to Ursula, the sea witch, who strikes a deal with her: in exchange for her voice, she will grant her legs for three days to get to know Prince Eric and make him fall in love with her, but if she fails to receive a true love kiss during that time, then she will turn back into a mermaid and belong to Ursula. Ariel accepts the deal and Ursula takes her voice and places it inside a nautilus shell.
Ariel wakes up on the shore with human legs and is taken to the castle by Eric after he finds her stranded on the beach. They spend time together but their attempts to kiss are frustrated by Ursula’s eels, Flotsam, and Jetsam. Seeing that Ariel comes close to succeeding, she transforms into a human named Vanessa and uses Ariel’s stolen voice to lure the Prince and enchant him to make him forget about Ariel.
The morning of the third day, Ariel wakes up to the news that Prince Eric will be marrying Vanessa, and is completely heartbroken until she finds Vanessa’s true identity. Ariel tries to save Eric by interrupting their wedding with the help of her friends. Amid the fight, the nautilus shell is broken and Ariel recovers her voice and Eric also breaks free from the enchantment. Realizing Ariel is the one that saved him he rushes to kiss her but it’s too late and Ursula’s spell becomes a reality.
In the meantime, Sebastian has alerted Triton about Ariel’s deal and confronts Ursula. Understanding that the pact is unbreakable, he offers himself to take Ariel’s place and is transformed into a polyp. Ursula takes Triton’s trident and becomes Queen of the Seven Seas. Ariel and Eric attempt to stop her but she uses her power to grow in size and create a huge storm. Ariel intervenes but is unable to stop Ursula. Eric takes commandment of one of the ships and impales Ursula.
After Ursula’s death, the polyps reverse to their original form and Triton recovers his trident. Recognizing his daughter’s feelings for Eric, he gives her legs and accepts her relationship with the prince. Having found their one true love, Ariel and Eric get married while all their loved ones, from above and below the sea, watch as they sail away.
