Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a popular theatrical production for school and amateur theater groups. Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Weber composed the lyrics and music, respectively, of this completely sung-through musical. First presented as a 15-minute cantata in 1968, the production underwent various transformations before its full format was opened in Broadway in 1982. That same year, it was nominated for six Tony Awards.

Based on the story of Joseph in the Bibles Book of Genesis, the musical is composed of 2 acts. The first act introduces Jacob and his 12 sons, one of whom is Joseph. The lead character receives a technicolor coat that symbolizes their fathers favor, an object his other brothers do not fail to notice. To get rid of Joseph, his jealous brothers sell him as a slave. The second act opens in Egypt, where Josephs fortune begins to change.
