Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
The musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is based on a book of the same name written in 1964 by Roald Dahl. Its inaugural performance was at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in May 2013 and is set to be staged on Broadway in 2017.
Charlie Bucket, the only child of an impoverished family living near a dump, chances upon a Golden Ticket, allowing him and his grandfather, Grandpa Joe, to join a guided tour of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. Aside from their eccentric host, the strange tour also includes four other children and their parents. The fantastic factory tour exposes the group to a number of wondrous machines for producing sweets, in addition to exposing the children’s various compulsions.
