Swanhilda is unhappy with Franz’s behavior and decides to test his love by shaking an ear of wheat by their heads; if it rattles, then his love is truthful. However, Shanhilda doesn’t hear a rattle and runs away, heartbroken.

Dr. Coppelius, the owner of the mansion where an immobile Coppelia is admired by many, swats away several boys at his door and inadvertently drops his keys. Swanhilda, who is nearby, picks up the keys and ventures into the home with her friends to learn more about Coppelia.

The girls find a room filled with people, but none seem to be moving. Soon, they realize that the people are lifelike dolls. Shortly after, Dr. Coppelius returns to his house and is very upset to find the girls there. He ushes them out of his home. However, Franz is also in the house, as he climbed the balcony in an attempt to meet Coppelia.

Dr. Coppelius sees this as an opportunity and invites Franz to his home. He plans to bring Coppelia to life using a spell that will transfer his spirit to the doll. Swanhilda, who stayed behind when all the girls left, sees this and puts on Coppelia’s clothes to trick the Doctor. She then winds up all the dolls in his house to help them escape. Dr. Coppelius, clearly distressed by the events that just took place, finds an immobile Coppelia right where he left her.

Just when Swanhilda and Franz are about to take their vows, Dr. Coppelius appears and demands compensation for the damages. Swanhilda, feeling regretful, offers him the dowry she received for marrying during the festival. Franz intervenes and offers to be the one to pay Dr. Coppelius. Later on, the mayor of the town is the one who pays Dr. Coppelius. Swanhilda and Franz take their vows, and the whole town celebrates by dancing.
