Get ready to travel to a magical world!
Dorothy is a young girl who lives merrily in a village with her family and dog, Toto. Her day-to-day life is extremely normal. One day, a mysterious tornado inadvertently takes Toto, Dorothy, and her farmhouse to a different land. Upon arrival, she is greeted by the Munchkins, small creatures who celebrate that her farmhouse has landed on top of the Wicked Witch of the East, successfully ending her years of tyranny.
Shortly after, the Good Witch of the North informs Dorothy of her accomplishment. For her achievement, Glinda tells her to keep the silver slippers. When Dorothy asks for help to get back home, Glinda advises her to see The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Then she sends Dorothy off and tells her to follow the yellow brick road.
On her way to the Emerald City, Dorothy meets a Tin Man, a Scarecrow, and a Cowardly Lion. Each one informs Dorothy of their wishes: the Tin Man wants a heart, the Scarecrow wants a brain, and the Cowardly Lion wants courage. Dorothy tells them to join her on her journey and ask the Wizard of Oz for his help.
When the group of friends finally arrive at the Emerald City, they ask the Guardians of the Gate to see Oz, and after much insisting, they agree to concede all of them in a private meeting with the Wizard. To each of them, he presents as a different entity; to Dorothy, he is a giant face, to the scarecrow, a kind woman, to the Cowardly Lion, a ball of fire, and to the Tin Man, a horrible beast. Unable to scare them away, Oz agrees to grant their wishes only if they kill the Wicked Witch of the West.
Dorothy and her friends embark on a new adventure searching for the Wicked Witch of the West. The Witch attempts to block them from coming to her reign, but they overcome every hurdle. She then manages to capture Dorothy and Toto and injure her friends so they cannot come to save her. Slaved by the Wicked Witch of the West, Dorothy must exit to help her friends and accomplish her mission.
After the Witch tricks her and takes one of her silver shoes, an angered Dorothy throws a bucket of water toward the Witch, which causes her to melt down. After the Witch is defeated, they return to the Wizard, only to be met by the surprising reveal that he is an ordinary man hiding behind a curtain. To fulfill his promise, he makes gifts to each of the heroes, granting them tokens that help them see that what they have been looking for has existed inside all along. To Dorothy, he explains that he is also from Kansas and accidentally arrived in this land one day on a hot air balloon. He offers her the opportunity to return with him using the same transport.
When they are about to leave, Toto escapes, leaving Dorothy to chase him down and miss the opportunity to leave with the Wizard. She then goes back to Glinda to ask for her help, who tells her she’s always been able to return home. After saying goodbye to her friends, Dorothy double-taps her silver shoes and returns home.
How are The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and Wicked connected?
The adventures of Wicked Witch of the West and Good Witch of the North didn’t quite start with the arrival of Dorothy to the Land Of Oz. Fact is, after the Witch’s death, Glinda can’t help but reminisce about the time she met her.
Many years ago, Glinda and Elphaba first crossed paths at the Shiz University to say goodbye to her younger sister, Nessaroe. Ephaba has been ostracized most of her life due to her unusual green skin and magical abilities. Following a display of her magic. The dean of the institute, Madame Morrible, agrees to tutor her privately, however, Elphaba agrees only with the hope of finding the Wizard of Oz and being “de-greenified”.
Elphaba ends up sharing a room with Galinda Upland, a pretentious but kind aspiring top student. The two don’t get off on the best terms, no matter how much time they spend together. One night Fiyero Tigelaar, a transfer student, is planning to take other students to Ozdust Ballroom. Galinda, who has developed a crush on Fiyero, plans on going with the help of Boq Woodsman. She then learns from Madame Morrible that she will now be admitted to the sorcery seminar due to Elphaba’s request. Sometime later, Elphaba shows up wearing a pointy hat that Galinda gifted her as a joke. After seeing everyone make fun of her, a regretful Galinda dances with her.
Galinda and Elphaba begin to bond. In the meantime, Dr. Dillamond, a professor of the school who is also a goat, was forcefully removed from his position and replaced after facing discrimination for being an animal. Infuriated, Elphaba casts a spell on all the students but her and Fiyero, and together they free the lion they had in captivity.
Elphaba is soon invited to meet the Wizard. Galinda accompanies her to the Emerald City, reaffirming their friendship. When she’s introduced to the Wizard, she wishes to help the Animals, whose civil rights have been forcefully removed. The Wizard encourages them to cast a spell from The Grimmerie, which causes the monkeys to grow wings. Elphaba realizes that Madame Morrinle and the Wizard have been working together and they are to blame for the Animal’s displacement. She then steals the spellbook and escapes. After biding a heartfelt goodbye to Galinda, who now goes by Glinda, she takes flight and says goodbye to Oz.
