Chicago

Wow your audience of the musical Chicago with stage backdrops depicting the Windy Citys famous skyline, smoky vaudeville theaters, neon light-lined streets, courtroom interiors, and jails, all of which you can get from Grosh Backdrops and Drapery. The Chicago musical we all know today was based on a 1926 play of the same name, written by Maurine Dallas Watkins. The playwright was a crime reporter who helped bring about the concept of the celebrity criminal. Chicagos first run took place at the 46th Street Theater in 1975. In 1979, the musical debuted on West End and ran for 600 performances. In 1996, it was revived on Broadway. On its 7,486th performance, Chicago broke the record as the second-longest running show on Broadway history. In 2002, an Academy Award-winning film version of the show, directed by Tom Marshall, was released by Miramax Films and The Producers Circle. Chicago is a musical satire of criminal justice set in Prohibition Era Chicago. Its lead characters, Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart, are both facing murder charges and competing to charm the public and win the attention of the press, all in order to get acquitted in the crimes they actually committed.
