Ella Peterson, the lead character of this musical, works for a telephone answering service. She enjoys her occupation because it allows her to have a perfect relationship with her clients and because her usual clients dont need to see her in person in order for her to help them. However, one of Ellas regulars, a playwright suffering from writers block, suddenly finds his muse in Ellas voice. The two finally meet in person, make a connection, and try to share their lives with each other.
