Elle Woods goes above and beyond to counsel her clients while keeping it chic!
This iconic story about overcoming stereotypes and becoming the best version of yourself starts at a Los Angeles restaurant, where Warner Huntington III and Elle Woods are having a peaceful and romantic candlelight dinner. Elle is certain Warner has brought her here to propose. The evening takes a left turn when, instead of proposing, he breaks up with her. According to Warren, he is trying to become a senator, and Elle is simply not serious enough to handle the responsibilities that come with that lifestyle.
Even though devastated, Elle comes up with a plan to prove herself to her now ex-boyfriend: become a lawyer herself. She then spends months studying to take the Law School Admission Test. After passing it with flying colors, and with the help of her 4.0 GPA, Elle is accepted into Harvard School of Law.
Elle’s bubbly personality clashes with her classmates’ more reserved attitudes at the beginning. Warren, whose father had to move some strings to get him to study there, is surprised to see that Elle is now a Harvard law student. She also learns he’s engaged to Vivian Kensington, his ex-girlfriend, but nothing deters her from her goal.
When she understands that no matter how hard she tries, she will never be enough for him, Elle’s focus changes, and she improves herself for her own satisfaction. She applies to one of her teacher’s internships, and is accepted along with Warren and Vivian. Her teacher, Professor Aaron Callahan, has taken the case of a famous fitness instructor, Brooke Windham, who is being accused of murdering her husband. Elle, who is familiar with her work and recognizes she is a sorority sister, takes particular sympathy with her and becomes very invested in her case.
Even though Brooke maintains her innocence, she refuses to give Callahan her alibi. Elle then tries to speak with her, and Brooke reveals that she does not want to use her alibi because she was getting liposuction at the time of the murder. She explained to Elle that if this information were ever to see the light of day, her reputation would suffer immensely.
Having promised her, Elle refuses to reveal Brooke’s alibi to Callahan and his team. Although the professor is not pleased with Elle’s stance, Vivian admires her resilience. Callahan’s junior partner, Emmett Richmond, also sees Elle’s potential and encourages her.
After Callahan tries to seduce her, a distressed Elle quits his team, thinking that’s the only reason he invited her to work on this case. She tells Emmet what happened, who was unaware of Callahan’s actions. Encouraged by her friends and teachers, Elle decides to go back. Brooke, who has heard what Callahan tried to do, fires him and hires Elle under Emmett’s supervision.
After some interrogations during the trial, Elle discovers a hole in Chutney Windham, Brooke’s step-daughter’s alibi. Through some more interrogations, Elle gets Chutney to admit she was the one who killed her father, believing it was Brooke. With her confession, Brooke is exonerated, and Chutney is arrested. Elle is praised by many for winning her case, including Warner, who asks her to take him back, but she refuses and befriends Vivian, who has also rejected him.
Fast forward two years, and Elle is giving the graduation speech for her class and is now dating Emmett, who has plans to propose that same night.
Sister’s Sorority
Be sure to start your production with your right foot with the Sorority House Exterior stage backdrop. It features the building with a brick façade and a colonnade with four pillars, all painted in pink. On the pediment, the Greek symbols for “Delta” and “Nu” are inscribed, establishing that this building is the home of the Delta Nu Sorority made famous in the film. The backdrop is unique, featuring four cut-out windows that allow the girls to be seen behind the drop.
This backdrop is perfect to showcase Elle’s life as the sorority’s president.
