Relive the most beloved love story
Bobby Child dreams of being part of Zangler Follies. However, his duty as the son of a banking family has always been an obstacle to this aspiration. He attempts to audition for Bela Zangler but fails to impress him. Deterred, he steps outside and is met by his fiance and mother, who informs him he must travel to Deadrock, Nevada, to foreclose on a somewhat abandoned three.
The less-than-charming town of Deadrock is inhabited by just a few cowboys, some businessmen, and the only woman, Polly Baker, the daughter of Everett Baker, the owner of the rundown theatre. As soon as he arrives, Bobby falls for Polly, who cannot return his affection after finding who he is and what he’s come to do.
He also meets Lank Hawkins, the owner of the town’s saloon, who tries to convince Everett Baker to sell him the theatre, but Everett can’t do it due to his emotional attachment to the place.
To gain Polly’s love, Bobby tries to figure out how to stop the foreclosure. Ultimately, he comes up with staging a new play and collecting the funds to pay off the mortgage. He pitches the idea to Polly, who is initially excited but thinks it might be a trick.
Heartbroken by Polly’s reaction, Bobby still decides to follow his plan and disguises himself as a Bela Zangler. He calls up the Zangler Follies to help him set up the play. The sudden appearance of the girls brings the town back to life and townsfolk become eager to participate in the play. Through a lot of rehearsal the play begins to come alive, only for Irene to show up at Deadrock and threaten Boby to reveal his real identity and, to Bobby’s dismay, Polly has fallen for his impersonation of Mr Zangler.
When the opening night arrives, only two tourists show up, making the people feel heartbroken, to realize later that the real joy has been in bringing this play to life.
In the wake of the moment, Bobby tells Polly he’s in love with her, but she has feelings for the person she thinks it’s Mr. Zangler. Unexpectedly, moments later Bela Zangler arrives at Deadrock looking for Tess, the Follies’ dance director and his one true love. He looks for Tess but refuses her request to produce the show.
Polly then sees the two and realizes what has happened. Angry at the lies she storms off. The people from Deadrock reunite to decide what to do, Bobby thinks they should do it but Polly thinks they should no longer go through with it. Ultimately, everyone abandons the theatre and Bobby returns to New York. Before he leaves, he tells Polly that their time together will live in his memories forever, but he’s gone before she can tell him she feels the same.
Six weeks later, Bobby is working at the family business. For his birthday, his mother gifts him the Zangler theatre, as Bela Zangler decided to finance the play at Deadrock for Tess and had to sell the theatre to get the funds. Bobby realizes his love for Polly is worth more than anything and decides to go back to Deadrock. In the meantime, Polly has decided to go after Bobby.
When Bobby arrives in Arizona, he goes after Polly but finds out she has already left looking for him. After some twists and turns, Polly and Bobby are reunited and profess their love towards one another.
