About Grosh Backdrops & Drapery

Amanda Ulhein: “Grosh is a fourth-generation family-owned business and we are experts in renting and selling and designing backdrops and drapery that transform stages, events, and productions all over the world. Grosh is a legend in the entertainment business because we have worked with legends in the industry, including “I Love Lucy”, “The Tonight Show”, Walt Disney, and Alfred Hitchcock’s “Spellbound”.

We’re not just a fixture in the history of entertainment though, we also understand the need to evolve, so that our products and services can work in today’s market.”

Giving clients the option to buy or rent, Grosh Backdrops & Drapery provides the highest quality themed and scenic backdrops in the world.

How Are Grosh Backdrops Made?

Greg Viera: “All our backdrops are handpainted right here in our Hollywood studio by an amazing team of artists. Most of us have been together some 20+ years. We do all the designing, the designs are the collaboration of everyone in the building.

We want to make sure the customer is happy. We spend a lot of time with the customer, creating the designs, and the new designs. We’ll come up with the design. We start with the sketch, a simple sketch, a line drawing, and turn it into a beautiful backdrop.

Our shop is very unique, it has six paint frames, and that allows more than one artist at a time to work on the frames. We create up to 120, maybe 130 new designs per year, so we’re constantly designing drops and we’re constantly painting them.

Our paint frames are always full, our team is always in action, we love our work. It isn’t just one person, it isn’t one person painting the drop, it’s not one person designing the drops, it’s all of us together. And I think that’s what makes Grosh unique. That it’s team effort all the way through.”

Custom Department

Going even one giant step further, Grosh also features a custom department, for all customized requests, and even offers drapery and photorealistic painted backdrops.

Greg Viera: “Custom is exactly that. That means a customer will come to us with a design in mind or a show, and it could be set pieces, it doesn’t necessarily have to be backdrops, it can be anything before the camera. We do lots of murals, we do paintings for restaurants, we’ve actually done some paintings for churches, and theaters, and just the whole gamut.”

A True Legend in the Entertainment Business

Joanna Smith: “Grosh is a legend in the entertainment business because we’ve been around for 82 years, but we’ve never allowed ourselves to get stagnant. We continue to innovate, deliver the best client satisfaction, the best backdrops with the most talented artists in the industry, the highest selection, and an overall best value.”

The next time you find yourself admiring the ambiance and a magical atmosphere at a theatre or event, remember where that magic came from. Grosh Backdrops & Drapery, the world’s greatest in professional backdrops.
